The 2023-2024 NBA season has had it’s share of big surprises. Some NBA teams have played better than expected and others have played worse than intended. The Golden State Warriors are perhaps the biggest disappointment thus far into this 2023-2024 season. The Warriors entered the 2023-2024 season as championship contenders. The team had won the 2022 NBA Championship less than two years ago. The Warriors brought back majority of the team from the previous season, while replacing Jordan Poole with Chris Paul. This season has not gone well for Golden State. The Warriors are currently the 11 seed in the Western Conference standings, with a 9-11 losing record. Injuries have played a key role to the Warriors poor season. Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul have all missed games at different points during this season. The NBA 2023-2024 has entered its fourth week into the new season. Every team has played at least 10 games to begin their seasons. A ten game sample size can say alot or very little when reflecting on a team’s success or failure. There are several NBA teams who are off to surprisingly good starts. These surprising teams include the Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder. The Atlanta Hawks and Minnesota Timberwolves are the only two previous playoff teams from the previous season. They are currenty playing more dominant and aggressive in their first 10 games. The Timberwolves have the number one league defense. Their star Anthony Edwards continues to take the next step towards super stardom. The Hawks have showed signs of being one of the best offenses led by their stars Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. The NBA 2023-2024 began a little over two weeks ago. Every NBA team has played nearly 10 games. A big game sample size usually determines the potential success and weeds out the contenders from the non contenders. A slow start to begin a new season is never a good sign. Several NBA teams are off to slow starts. These teams off to slow starts include the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chiago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Phoenix Suns, LA Lakers, LA Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies. Injuries to All Star players and key role players has impacted the starts to several of the listed teams. The Cleveland Cavaliers have had several injured players in and out of the starting five including Darius Garland and Jarret Allen. The New Orleans Pelicans have seen day to day injuries to Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson. CJ McCollum will also miss extended time after suffering a collapsed right lung.
