Is it time for the Philidelphia 76ers to reset the process?
The half way point has been reached during the 2024-2025 NBA season. The Philidelphia 76ers are without question the biggest disappointment of the 2024-2025 NBA Season. Injuries to star player Joell Embiid and the team’s overall underperformance has led the Sixers finishing the half way point with a 15-26 losing record. They currently sit 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings with no signs of winning improvement. Stars Joell Embiid and Paul George have missed several games during the Sixer’s losing stretch of games. The big three of Joell Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey have played just 10 total games together out of the 41 games played. The lack of availability from Embiid, Maxey and George has put a damper in the Sixers championship aspirations. It begs the question how the Sixers front office will manage the team’s trade deadline during the second half of the season. The NBA trade deadline is less than 3 weeks away and the Sixers remaining schedule does not get any easier. The Sixers are currently in the midst of a six game losing streak. This losing streak has dropped the Sixers 15-26 record to the eighth worst among the league’s bottom feeders. The Sixers first round draft pick is 1 through 6 protected, which could be beneficial to the Sixers in a loaded draft class. It is worth remembering, The Sixers owe their first round draft pick to the Oaklahoma City Thunder if their pick falls below 6th in the NBA Lottery. Tanking their remaining games could be an option for the Philadelphia 76ers in what looks to be a lost and forgettable NBA season. Tanking may not be a respected idea but it is a option which bennefits the Sixers 2025 first round draft pick. Drafting a high lottery pick will allow the Sixers a chance to re-evalutate the franchise’s future. Joell Embiid and Paul George are only getting older and injury prone. It could be very difficult to move on from both future Hall of Famers but a discussion should be had. The Sixers could rebuild around rising star Tyrese Maxey and potential young star Jared Mccane during the 2025 offseason. So whats lies in the Philadelphia 76er’s future? Will the team be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline? The future of a NBA franchise can be unpredictable but a team’s direction could always change with in time.
