The MLB 2023 playoffs has entered the second round. The remaining playoff matchups are all interesting and fairly even matched. The Division Series matchups include the Baltimore Orioles vs the Texas Rangers, the Minnesota Twins vs the Houston Astros, the Philadelphia Phillies vs the Atlanta Braves and the Arizona Diamondbacks vs the LA Dodgers. Each series will have it’s key X-factors. The Texas Rangers have several veteran players with playoff experience, including shortstop Corey Seager, second baseman Marcus Semien and starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. This veter caliber team will go up against a young and upcoming team, led by catcher Adley Rutschman, third baseman Gunner Henderson and outfielder Cedric Mullens. Playoff experience and veteran leadership could play huge roles in this playoff series. The Minnesota Twins will face the Houston Astros for the first time since the 2020 playoffs. Both teams look very different since that timeframe. The Houston Astros will be heavily favorited since they are the defending champions. The Astros will have an advantage from a hitting perspective, lead by second baseman Jose Altuve, DH Yordan Alveraz and Right Fielder Kyle Tucker. The Twins may have an upside towards having the better pitching rotation and bullpen. The Atlanta Braves vs Philadelphia Phillies matchup is a rematch from last year’s Division Series. Both teams are very similiar from one year ago. The Phillies pulled off the surprising upset back when they were the underdogs. The Braves will once again be favorited to win the series. The Braves might not have the best starting pitching compared to a earlier in the season but they are led by two MVP front runners: Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson. The star power of Acuna, Olson and others will put the Braves as favorites to win the World Series. Lastly, The Arizona Diamondbacks vs LA Dodgers matchup could be considered the Davey vs Goliath matchup
. The Diamondbacks shocked the baseball world with a two game Wild Card sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers. They enter the Division Series as the biggest underdogs of the entire playoffs. The Dodgers enter the matchup coming off of a 100 win regular season. The Diamondbacks only won a total of 84 games compared to the Dodgers. However, the Dodgers were upset one year ago against the 89 win San Diego Padres. The Dodgers are the better baseball team but they have fallen short in back to back playoffs since winning the 2020 World Series. The star power of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman will put the Dodgers as favorites to win the Divison Series. What will the final outcome be of these four playoff series? Will there be any upsets? The MLB 2023 Divison Series begins on Saturday afternoon.
