The final day of the 2023 MLB regular season is one week away from today. The defending champion Houston Astros are at risk of missing the MLB playoffs for the first time since 2016. They enter Monday just half a game ahead of the Settle Mariners for the final Wild Card spot, with 6 games left to play. The Astros will conclude their regular season with three games against the Seattle Mariners and three games against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mariners will try to jump the Astros in the Wild Card standings, while the Diamondbacks will try to clinch the second National League Wild Card during the final series. The Houston Astros are coming off a poor 2-5 homestand, losing two of three games to the Baltimore Orioles and three straight losses to the Kansas City Royals. The Seattle Mariners will play the Texas Rangers for three final games after the Houston Astros Series. The Mariners were recently swept by the Texas Rangers, entering their final series against Houston. This week’s three game series could make or break the Houston Astros 2023 season. They have had an awful month of September and their 2023 season is coming down to the wire. The Astros starting pitching have pitched inconsistently and their offense has stalled with runners in scoring position. Luckly for the Houston Astros, they are a better road team than home team. Their final regular season games will all be on the road. The Astros have gone 46-29 on the road, while clinching a losing 39-42 record at home. How will the Houston Astros respond through adversity? Could their playoff window be coming to a close? A World Series hangover is often times considered a myth by the media and fans. The 2023 Houston Astros could dispel this myth, if they continue to tumble.

Today begins the early stages of trade season in the NBA. Players who signed during the 2024 offseason are now eligable for trades. Several contendering NBA teams are now in the mix for trade upgrades to their playoff caliber rosters. The question becomes why would a team sell players with over 50 games remaining in the 2024-2025 season. The answer is simple: to tank. The NBA 2025 draft lottery is 5 months away but that wont stop many NBA general managers from selling high or low. Rebuilding NBA teams have a chance to impact their draft lottery odds by selling as soon as possible. Selling early often leads to impacting the number of game losses.
