Who will win the American League Western Division?

The 2023 MLB Season is down to the final 6 weeks. Several divisions have been determined including the American League Central, National League East and National League West divisions. The American League West Division has become a 3-team race. The third place Seattle Mariners are in the midst of a 7 game winning streak and the first place Texas Rangers are spiraling a 5 game losing streak. The defending champion Houston Astros sit just half a game ahead of the Seattle Mariners. All three teams have elite starting pitching but health has played a huge factor in their recent successes. The Astros are currently missing former all-star first baseman Jose Abreu, while the Texas Rangers are missing all-star Third baseman Josh Jung and ace starting pitcher Natan Eovaldi. The Seattle Mariners are healthy and playing their best baseball throughout this month of August. The Mariners also have the easiest remaining schedule in comparson to the Astros and Rangers. The Rangers have several veteran players with playoff experience but the Rangers lacks playoff experience as a whole. The Astros and Mariners previously met in the playoffs less than one year ago. Only 2 games seperate the Mariners and Astros from the Rangers. Who will win the American League West? Will  all 3 teams make the playoffs? The saying take one game at a time only gets stronger by the day.

Is tanking in December bad for the NBA?

Today begins the early stages of trade season in the NBA. Players who signed during the 2024 offseason are now eligable for trades. Several contendering NBA teams are now in the mix for trade upgrades to their playoff caliber rosters. The question becomes why would a team sell players with over 50 games remaining in the 2024-2025 season. The answer is simple: to tank. The NBA 2025 draft lottery is 5 months away but that wont stop many NBA general managers from selling high or low. Rebuilding NBA teams have a chance to impact their draft lottery odds by selling as soon as possible. Selling early often leads to impacting the number of game losses. For example, the Golden State Warriors traded multiple future second round picks and injured guard Deanthony Melton for Brooklyn Nets point guard Dennis Schroder.
